    WTB: 96-98 993 Targa

I'm looking for a P Car daily driver and have decided on a 993 Targa.

I'm looking for a car w/ around 40k miles or less.

I want a (heaven forbid!!) Tiptronic.

Colors: Ext: Fairly open but prefer Silver/Grey/Dark Blue not Black/Red. Int: pref Grey but Black or Blue is OK. Not Beige.

Looking to pay $35-40k. If anyone knows of a good car available please contact me.
    Cheers,

    Steve

    Beware!

Please test drive the car for several hours before buying! Sorry to be such a party pooper but the Targa roof/structure squeeks (no, there's no cure for that) and the Tiptronic is plain boring and annoying. I had one for a few days, never again. Sorry to be so negative but that's my experience.

    Keep the faith,

The latest Excellence (993 buyer's guide) says the same thing about the rattles. I owned a '96 Targa and the roof broke twice - once it wouldn't close at all, and once the entire inner shade sheared itself off the roof! Because the assembly requires several hours to take apart, the bills were almost $3000 in total. It's a nice option, but to me the hassle wasn't worth it.

The Tiptronic for me is a must for two reasons. First I sit in LA traffic and I want a car with an auto. I'm not looking at this as a track car/canyon carver. Second my wife wants the ability to drive it and she doesn't drive stick and I honestly don't have the time or patience to teach her. I've managed to go eleven years keeping her out of "my" cars but on this one I'm willing to compromise. I hear compromise is the secret to a happy marriage. And trying to teach her to drive stick could possibly end the marriage.

As far as the performance, I've driven Tips and its fine for me for the use I want for this car. I drive other cars that fill the performance void.

With respect to the top. I'll take that under advisement, but I really dig the lines of the Targa and other than a 2S its the only 993 I want. If I could find a seller to part with a 2S Tip in my price range then I'd go for that. There are a ton of 2S cars for sale at prices $10-$15k over that of the Targa. Funny thing is all the same cars have been for sale for months now! But thats another discussion. If anyone has a medium mileage nice 2S Tip for sale $40k or under let me know.
    Cheers,

    Steve

I found one. 98 Targa Tip. White over black. All options. 20k miles. Like a new car--perfect condition. Absolutely fantastic. Very happy. May have to be a keeper as its a "last year" car and only 122 Targas were sold in the US in 98.
