    Indicator (Signal) Switch

    Guys

Can anyone please fill me in on what the difference is for the '71 model switch in comparison to the 70, 72 & 73 model?

Are the 70, 72 & 73 switches ok to use on my '71 as the switch for my year is no longer available.

    Thanks

If you still have your original '71 switch, you can look on the underneath of the indicator arm where the part number should be stamped. On a 70, this was 911 613 301 00. I can also tell you when I got a replacement some years ago, it was already superceded. Externally it was identical, but internally the 1000 levers and springs and watch parts had been replaced with about three plastic parts. It's actually a better design and a better switch, though.

I assume the wiring is the same over this early 70's year range and the appearance is the same?

    Thanks

At least on the new one I got, even the texture on the paddle was the same. Only the internals were different. The wiring was identical. It does take some patience to fish the main batch of wires with its right angle connector along the original route under the column to the plug over by the hood hinge. After you manage to get the old one out, of course. Big improvement, the simple plastic cam pieces in the newer one have a lot more positive action than the old springs and levers. But I saved the old one just because it's such a nice piece of machinery, it's really is kinda like a watch inside. If I could find the replacement springs for it shown in the factory manual, it would probably work fine.
