Thread: Another 911R!

    Another 911R!

I got real lucky earlier last month and scored another 911R. This will be my third and at least for the near future my ride for the next few years in the main European FIA races including the Tour Auto and Le Mans Classic.

The car clears customs end of this week if all goes well and I will of course post plenty of details and photos.

Barth and others have been very helpful as was the cars previous owner.

The car spent 23 months with the Porsche Factory and was raced by them from the Fall of 67 until being sold by them in the fall of 69.

It spent the next ten years in East Africa with one owner before going to the man we got it from.

I have lots of details and documents on the car's construction but only a list of all the races the Factory ran these cars in and not this car's specific races.

I am hoping that after I post full details the experts on this site can fill in the details.

    Warm regards,

    Bill Noon

    You and me both!!!

All I have now are the crudy ones taken when we moved the car from storage after purchasing it.

Customs has been pretty hard lately. Almost all my stuff coming in has been going to "intensive" for agriculture and X-Ray."

I am hoping to have this one on Friday of this week if all goes well.

    Cheers,

    Bill

Both the 911R and a 1963 Carrera 2 arrived late yesterday at the Port of Los Angeles. They are expected to be unloaded this AM and then they are off to US Customs for document and physical inspections.

I am still hopeful for an early release after processing. I almost feel like camping out at our agents office with our truck waiting for the release.

I can not believe after so many fantastic Porsche's that have passed through my hands that I am this excited over one specific car.

I will keep all interested updated and of course post plenty of photos and notes after the car arrives.

    Cheers,

    Bill Noon

Can't wait to see the photos either Bill. Can you share with us which chassis # it is? I am trying to figure out which 911R is that B&W photo you posted in the other thread. Thanks.

118 9 9002. Original engine when completed on 11/6/67 was a 901/22 with number 508 0004. Porsche retained the car for races and testing until 11/29/69 when it was sold to an Italian Doctor in East Africa. Porsche had it for 23 months and ran a bunch of different engines in the car at various races. As soon as we can figure out which registration number Porsche put on the car they will be able to confirm which races, when and with whom they ran the car.

I have all of Porsche's construction, ownership and sales records for the cars. Plus names, dates and addresses on the car's two previous owners.

When Porsche sold the car the Dr. Purchased a fresh 911R gearbox and a fresh 911R engine no 508 0022 which is still in the car today.

When the Italian Doctor retired back to Italy in the early 80s it was sold to the guy we bought it from. It apparently has been used less than 2k kilometers since being sold back in 1969.

Customs gave us a release on the car for Monday pick-up. I am trying to schedule a truck to retrieve it so we can get right to prepping it for next year's Tour de France.

I will post photos and notes as soon as it comes in.

Any help with period photos and history will be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers,

    Bill Noon

...and ran a bunch of different engines...

    Bill,

Dare we think that one of these motors could have been a rarely seen 4 cam (916) motor.....
    Just a thought.

    Cheers,
    Dennis.
