    911R photo help

Can anyone shed any light on this photo ?

    Where and when taken ?

Any other details related to this car with Factory Plates "S-04516" ?

A freind helping research the history of our new 911R thinks it might be a photo of our car.

All assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    Warm regards,

    Bill Noon

Bill - have you contacted Ernie Wilberg about this ?

If not, it would be worth checking with him.

Here is a period photo taken of 911R #5 taken at the same location as the car above. I don't know where it is though.

Were the center fill caps on the production 911R cars only?

    Bill,
I have the same pic you posted from PORSCHE 911 '63-'71 by Brian Long. The only info listed in caption is "The Legendary 911R, pictured here in December of 1967". If you're willing to post the chassis number I'm sure all of us can dig through some rare literature to post info.

Had to be later than December, 1967 with that 914-6 in the background.

I think he was referring to the first photo. The second photo, who knows?

No, they appeared on the prototypes too.

118 9 9001 through at least 118 9 9004 which were the first four 911R production variants but still called "non-type / prototypes" by Porsche internally did not have through the bonnett center fill caps. They may however have acquired them rather quickly durring further testing and racing shortly after being built.

    The car I just bought is 118 9 9002.
