Anyone use a set of Hella side marker lights on RS bumper as license plate lights?

I don't have any of the license plate lights in the rear deck (PO tore everything out). Since I'm going to a f/g rear deck lid with R hinges, I had to think of a new solution anyway. I did some research and came across a thread on the mothership by GeorgeK. He used some Hella side marker lights on what appears to be an SC bumper.

I thought it might be cool to try them on my f/g RS bumper and happened to locate some on eBay.

Anyone see this done and have pics? Comments and critiques welcome.

Hello: I think the 911SCRS used these lights as well. I believe they are from a BMW 2002 or 320i. You can also use led lights that motorcycle guys use to light there licience plates with. They replace the screws that mount the plate. There is a guy in Houston that makes these out of stainless steel and he also sells Jeep parts. I can't remember his name or company. I have used them on 911's and my Suzuki SV650. They work great. Hope this helps. Thanks Eric

    Bill,

I saw those lights on George's Carrera 3.0 in person and they really look great. A very nice period application. Will your car have bright trim? If so I think those would be a great addition.

    Brian,

I will be retaining the bright/clear anodized (or chrome where applicable) door frames, window trim, window squeegees, headlight trim rings and side view mirror. I also obtained a 71 deck lid grill. The R rear decklid hinges, external ignition kill switch, rubber hood latches and center fill gas tank cap have more of a brushed/rough polished aluminum look. The car will not have any rocker or bumper trim. The car will be painted its original signal yellow. I think they might look good, but then again, they might be a bit much. I think they could compliment the look of the chrome headlight trim rings at the front of the car. I was going to poll everyone this weekend.

Milou, these are advertised as "new stock" so I'm sure they're not what your looking for. In GeorgeK's thread, he said they're NLA and hard to find. Who knows maybe George has an extra vintage set or doesn't use his anymore...try him.

Those are BMW 2002 license plate lights and are easily available at $24.95 including the bulb and gasket from Bavarian Auto. Click here for their website and search for part number 63 26 8 102 W/B.

So then Milou should be able to pull them off of an old BMW and have his vintage lights with the appropriate patina.

I believe this same Hella light was used on a red '73RSR running at the Coronado vintage races that I saw last weekend. It was mounted on the passenger door in combo with an amber colored dome light.
