    Parking light/turnsignal lenses ?

    Hi

Is it possible to change the lens on a 1964-68 euro front turnsignal/parking light, or do one have to change the housing along with the lens because they are integrated?

I have seen and read about 3 types:

    US all amber
    Italian, all Clear?
Rest of the world clear/amber combination

But I have also seen one that most of the lens is clear, with a small part amber that the seller claims are Italian type lens?

Can someone explain this to me?

    Thanks
    John

Repro SWB lenses have been available for a few years now for about $55 ea. I have replaced 2 complete sets in EURO and US. Very easy job but you have to use silicone sealer because the original lens to housing seal in not available. I have found it best to use masking tape on the lens and housing to get a nice even and clean edge seal. Clamps help to hold the new lens in place and contour the new lens to the housing. Start from the center. Melt the tabs with soldering iron. A flat tip would be nice to flatten the tabs. You will know if you got a good seal after the first wash.

John - I've bought the replacement swb lenses from a number of different suppliers in Germany including this ebay seller (Maria Habeck):

The lenses that you describe with the small amber/large white (clear) sections are the Italian version.

I'll resurrect this old thread to see if anyone has any new advice on replacing the lens on early tail and signal light units. I figured that there needed to be a sealant of some sort but wondered how to make it seal and not be visible. Is silicon the seal of choice?

If I may add onto the lense replacement questions, where to buy the rivets and how to attach them?

Ahhhh the sixties... I envision myself one early Saturday morning wearing plaid shorts, black shoes with white socks smoking a cigarette heading to the hardware store to buy a bag of nails.
SWB cars are an acquired taste however once acquired theirs no turning back.
