    Question Stripes & Ducktails

Couple of unrelated questions I would value opinion on

    Q1
Black car - what color suggestions for side stripe / bumper stripe??
I'm looking at the R style PORSCHE side script.
    Glass bumpers front & rear
Any pictures to support suggestions would be much appreciated

    Q2
When new, was the 72/73 Carrera RS available to order WITHOUT the ducktail??

    Thanks guys

Look at this thread, and you will find pics of a original irish green ducktail delete RS.

    Gilbert,
In my opinion, the R style of striping is the most attractive. Silver would be my choice for a black car. I think that RS Carrera looks great, but is over done. That said, I am looking at a black RS clone with the Carrera script in red. It looks great in red also.

The RS Carreras could be ordered with stripe delete, as well as, ducktail delete. Actually, the ducktail was not a delete - it was an option that I believe most cars were ordered with.

I thought about white, red, orange, matte black and dark silver. On my car, I like the gray. If I were doing a lightweight track car look, I would probably drop the heavy trim pieces and do the 1-inch bumper stripe in the same color.

I have to admit to thinking that the traditional Carrera graphic from the RS -- when you consider it outside of its historical significance -- does look a little silly. It's so big. But the Carrera graphic pretty much defines the look of my favorite model of Porsche ever, so I do love it.

But my car was never meant to resemble an RS or an R, so I went with the less-jumbo graphic. All caps and a stripe looks more 'the business' to me.

In addition, for what it is worth, there is a claimed "ducktail delete" RS in this thread (item #5)...

One of the eight Aus deliveries was duck-less.
It just didn't seem to 'look' right.
It was either white or an ivory colour and was ordered by John Dawson-Damer.

    Cheers,
    Dennis.

    Scott,

Actually it was the other way. The 'Carrera' side script was a special order option (#462 for black script). Believe it or not this option was not ordered on most RS cars. The Grand Prix white cars were the exception as they all came with side script, usually in either red, blue, or green. For example in the conversion order (the form used to convert an RSH to M471 or M472) it would read 'Schriftzug und Felgen rot' for a GP white car with red script and fuchs.

The rear ducktail spoiler was standard on all RS cars but could be ordered without one. Again in the conversion order it would read 'Achutng! Heckspoiler entfällt'.

Another option would be to use the prototype CARRERA "positive" script in silver. I have a set I had made a few years ago. I will try to post a picture later, or others who have the RS brochure or book can help out here with a picture.
