    Wheels for a 73.5

Hello, new to your forum, been around Porsche's since 1964, I personally have owned 4 Porsche's, 1968 912, 1971 911T, 1975 911S and 2002 996. Spent about 10 years (1976 through 1986) transporting Porsche's from Ann Arbor MI and Denver CO, back to Calif. for the factory. (EPA Test Cars) It was a part time job and I got to keep the cars until my next trip. Great fun and I really enjoyed that part time venture.

Last summer I sold my 2002 and I'm now looking for a 1973.5. A fellow named Andy had a great looking car for sale in this forum and others, a Silver car with a 2.7 RS engine. Unfortunately, I was a day late as he had sold the car.

I'm now looking at a car being restored in the San Francisco bay area.

My question has to do with wheels. The car I'm looking at has 6" Fuchs but I prefer the look of the 7" wheels.

Can anyone tell me what offset wheel will fit an unaltered 73.5 body? Also, it it's not too much to ask, a part number and the expected price for a set of 4 wheels

    thanks in advance,

    Larry

I have 7's on my 73.5. There are no rubbing issues with 205's unless I'm in an off camber turn at high speed and hit a bump then there is a slight rub on the front.

    Hi Larry,

Welcome to the board. You can find used 7x15s' fairly easily and have them refinished. Place a WTB: (want to buy) add on Pelican Parts classifieds and you should have several responses fairly soon.

    Here's the link:
    http://forums.pelicanparts.com/forum...?s=&forumid=17

Here are a couple places that refinish these as well.

    Al Reed

    Weidman Wheels

Al Reed is a bit cheaper and has a faster turn around and his wheels look great. Weidmans' work on the otherhand is second to none but it costs more and his turn around time is longer. Unless I was restoring to concourse I myself don't see the advantage of Weidman but that's just me.

    Here's an Al Reed wheel.

I've always considered the glass to be half full...that is until I reached middle age and realized that it is actually half empty.

Having owned both, I'd go for Al Reed's wheels. They look similar to Harvey's from 5 feet and don't require the same level of care that Harvey's do. I believe you can buy them off the shelf from www.wheelenhancement.com too.
    Cheers,
