    FS: Center-Fill Tank

Tank is two years old and was previously installed in a '70 ST:

I bought it recently for my '67 SWB Rally car and have decided not to install it, so I'm offering it for what I paid for it: $1,500 + shipping. Cap not included.

Here's a link to the previous transaction:

Pictures of the tank when it was new - two years ago.

I've received several inquiries with questions. I'm checking with the previous owner (I have never installed the tank) and I will post more details when I have them.

    Thanks,
    John

    Additional Information

Here's more information that I just received from the previous owner of the tank:

"The project began with a brand new gas tank. The spare tire provision was deleted and a brand new factory sending unit was bought at the dealer. The center fill neck and bowl were purchased in Germany and welded onto tank during tire deletion welding. The tank was pressure tested after all mods done. It was then primed with Glassurit primer, sprayed with factory body shutz, and then painted grey. New fittings on the bottom were bought from Stoddard and the bottom seal was bought from Stoddard. There are no internal modifications done. I believe total capacity to be in the 17-18 gallon range. It is bigger then stock, but not as big as the 110 liter plastic tanks."

This tank was offered for $3,000 when new - now $1,500. Hope that helps.

    Offers Accepted

I really want to sell this tank. Not for the money but to avoid what will probably happen if I don't sell it. I'll install it in my '67 SWB, which means I will have to: (a) cut a hole in the hood; (b) replace the fenders with fiberglass ones in order to delete the fender gas filler; (c) since the fenders are fiberglass, might as well go ahead and install fiberglass bumpers front and rear; (d) who knows what all.

The '67 has perfect gaps and it would be a shame - but it's a slippery slope.

    Make me an offer!

    Cheers,
    John

If the '67 is that nice it would be a shame to mess with it, So why not just build another car around the tank. Heeheeheehee.

My first 911, a gemini blue 70 911S coupe back in 1998, came with a 110 liter plastic rally tank, filler cap etc very similar to John's pictured here.
Knowing very little about the early ones back then, I figured that it was a stock tank.
Well, a few months after owning it, I decided to to go down to the annual Porsche gathering at PartsHeaven. I drove down and parked the car next to the others and popped my hood (which the others had done as well). Within 10 minutes there were people coming up to me, looking at my car incredulously, and quietly asking if I was interested in selling my tank. I thought it was kind of odd that anyone, let alone at least 3-4 people would be so interested in wanting to buy my gas tank?!
I had no idea what to ask for it. One guy offered me $800 and was willing to give me money on the spot. Since the guy seemed so desparate, I decided that I would hold off until I did some more research and fund out what the tank was worth.
Despite the money I could have pocketed, and in respect to the car, I ended up keeping the tank with the car and passed it along to the next person who bought my car. Well, a couple of years ago I saw that my old car was up for sale again by Porsport. However, the 110 liter tank was missing. It's probably in one of the ralley cars Don has sold.
In hindsight, it was kind of fun filling it up at the gas station. It was like filling up an oversized aquarium with a fire engine hose.
Since the original 110 liter tanks are made out of plastic, and they go for stupid money, why hasn't someone just made up a batch? It's just plastic.
That car really handled tight. I am guessing with all of the extra weight from the fuel in the tank up front, the weight ratio was greatly improved.
