    Weber 40 IDS question

Are the Weber 40 IDS velocity stacks made out of plastic or metall?
What is the original configuration for a SWB 911S? When was it changed?

    Thanks in advance.

My IDS carbs have metal velocity stacks.

The original configuration for the SWB 911S included 40IDA-3C carbs, same as the Normal version, but with larger venturis and jetting for the hotter motor. From engine serial #960502 on, the 911S used the 40IDS-3C carbs, which had the added high-speed enrichment circuit to provide a richened mixture at high RPM to minimize the possibility of detonation.

If I remember correctly, the 2.0S carbs originally had 32mm venturis, 130 main jets, 180 air correction, 55 idle and F3 emulsion tubes, if that is what you mean by "configuration."

Both my 67S and 67 Normale have metal. I just bought an extra set of carbs from Rob Laverty and they have plastic, he said they were from a late 67. I have a set of plastic that I remember coming from a 71T.

    Thank you Tom and Rick!

Sorry for the confusion, but my question was originally focused on the material of the velocity stacks - metal versus plastic.

I have got both too, but what is original for an early SBW car??

    5 of mine are plastic.
I assume the originals were plastic and one was broken and replaced with metal.

It is looking like half and half - plastic and metal....letīs make a poll?!

As far as I know it was changed in 1971, but I have now idea whether metal was first or the other way round??

It seems to be a difficult question!

    Who knows??

I seem to recall the 67s being plated metal, and the 68s being plastic. Paul Abbott will know.
