    Turbo Center Console Question

This might be a little off topic...
But I have a question for the very knowlegable group of people on here...
The first 911 Turbo came out in 1974...
Did it have a 'Dampfrad' from the start, to control the boost of the turbocharger?
Meaning that this was the first 911 that had to carry a center console on the tunnel, housing this control wheel?
    Just curious?!

    Thorston,
I don't think any road going turbo had adjustable boost from the factory. The 3.0s didn't even have a boost level indicator.

Did the first road legal 911/930 Turbo come out in 74? I thought 75/76.

It may have been '74 in Germany as a '75 model...

I found this, the different debut in US and Europe confused me:

Porsche badged the vehicle simply as "Turbo" (although early U.S. units were badged as "Turbo Carrera") and debuted it at the Paris auto show in October 1974 before putting it on sale in the spring of 1975; export to the United States began in 1976.

I've seen a few '75 u.s. spec turbos for sale. Not sure how many were inported. Adjustable boost knobs were never offered on street cars.

My 77 turbo has a boost gauge in the tach - it was the first year for it.

I don't think that any regular production turbo had adjustable boost. I also don't think that the turbo came standard with the center console until 77.

The first european Turbo's were delivered in the beginning of the year 1975. They never had a "dampfrad" to turn on the boost. No series Turbo's either 3.0 or 3.3 litre had a boost control.
The very first cars did not have an rpm meter with the boost level indicator. This came with the second series (3.3 litre).
The 1975 cars did have the non electric exterior lefthand side miror (this was the manually operated flat rear view miror, comparable with the 1972 exterior mirors), and did not have a center console. The center console did come indeed in 1977.
Hereby an interior picture of one of the very first cars delivered in may 1975.
    Hope this answers your question.
