Thread: What year toolbag is this?

    What year toolbag is this?

It's grooved, vs. basketweave. (Sorry for poor photo quality, but I took a quick snapshot).

    Thanks, in advance.

    Tool bag

Around 65-68. '69 was the simulated leather "elephant hide." And, after that, '70-'73 was basket weave. The bags, like yours, had differenct color linings and yours is, I believe, the most common.

That's a 1965 and 1966 usage toolkit bag. There was also another vinyl with "ribbed" horizontal features for those years as well, but a different type of rib.

In 1967 they used a vinyl that had the texture of a pinpoint cotton shirt, but in a smaller relief. Interior colors were putty or red. The red predominantly in 912's

In 1968 the bag that appeared most of the time was a black naugahyde type, with the putty interior, very rarely seen was the Buffalo hide type material.

In 1969 the predominant bag was a black naugahyde with a tan interior, and again on very rare occasions the buffalo/heavily textured material, with a putty interior. In late 1969 there appears to be some usage of the basket weave material.

1970 to mid 1973 was the basket weave material with the putty interior. Mid 73 started two new bags, one with a string tie, and one with two snaps.

    Regards, Eric

What this forum needs is stuff like this posted with pics and then locked down so we have future reference to that material. Of course it would be agreed as best as possible to accuracy prior to lockdown. Same could be done with tools, specific features, etc.

There's more than enough collective wisdom here to collaborate on something like this. Start with maybe the toolbag thread and let's see where it goes from there.

Make like a standard form where you fill in the blanks, like:
    mfg.
    yr.
    where made.
    part/model #.
    special identifiers.

Has the time not come for this? It would be nice to build a reference library instead of always using hit and miss search phrases. Even better might be a dloadable .pdf for each item when complete and stored that way?
