Oil drain plug and tank wrench

Changing the oil in my just received 911e. Just discovered I don't have the proper wrench for the two plugs. What size is it? Obviously, my first 911. I tried doing a search and nothing came up.

Thanks for any help. This site helped me tremendously in making this purchase.

Are the drain plugs allen type-hex or are they a head like a socket(19mm)? Does your car have a tool kit?; I think the either one will be in the tool kit.

My drain plugs appear to take either an allen wrench or a torx. I couldn't really tell because they have been "buggered" up a bit. On second thought, torx type heads probably weren't around in 1970. Based on your comments they are probably an allen wrench. Thanks for the information. Yes, good point. That engine holds over 7 quarts of oil. I'm off to buy the allen wrenches. I don't have any that large. My car didn't come with a tool kit just a jack. I am looking for a tool kit as we speak.

The internal hex drain plug uses a 10mm hex bit. Use a socket drive and attach a 1/2" dr. breaker bar to it. These tend to tighten up with miles. Many folks end up with an unremoveable frozen plug. I'd recommend a Fumoto ball drain valve to replace the factory drain plug.

You are correct, it's a 10 mm hex socket. Hex bit and ratchet worked just fine. Plugs came out without any problem. Just finished changing the oil along with the filter screen. Engine has just been re-built and I found a few tiny pieces of gasket material in the screen.

    Thanks
