Freshly rebuilt street/track 3.0 with carbs and cams

FOR SALE: An early, big port 3.0 motor rebuilt about 1,000 miles ago by Monty Jarvies of Redmond European (reputable shop in the Seattle area). The bottom end was inspected and found to be fine, so it was left alone. New P's & C's were used with 9.8:1 compression and 964 Sport cams. It has Webber 40's, and a recurved dist and MSD ignition. The Webbers are freshly rebuilt and in perfect condition. I can send you the specs and the leakdowns which are strong. The motor is still in my 914-6 and I just dyno'd it two weeks ago at over 190hp at the wheels (about 225 hp at the crank) with 914-6 heat exchangers and a 2 in 1 out muffler.

I am asking $8,800 for the motor with weber 40's and MSD ignition, but no exhaust and no sheet metal.

I also have weber 46's, headers, and megaphones if you are looking for a track package. It can easily make north of 275 hp with that combination. Price with Weber 46's and headers $9,300.

Would you be interested in selling the 46IDA's seperately?

I've had a number of parties interested in buying the Weber 46's. I will not sell them seperately prior to the sale of the motor. If they do no go with the motor, then they will be offered for sale seperately.

    Thanks for the interest.

Free bump. I drove his 914-6 when this motor was still in the car and it pulls like a big block V8. I had no idea a 3 liter motor could be this strong. Knowing the mechanic that built it, I'd have no reservations buying what is essentially a new engine.

    Motor sounds interesting.
So what would be the rev range on this motor with the 964 sport cams?
Any issues using this motor with a stock 915 gearbox?

This motor wants to fly by 7000 RPM, even though this is a "torque" cam. It is definitley torquier than an 'S' cam, but the power of the 964 still does not fall off. I was impressed.

Kenik - Thanks for the testimonial.

Gruen - As Kenik says, the motor wants to spin past 7,000, where the rev limited currently kicks in. With a change of valve springs it would be happy going higher. See below for the dyno pull done with this motor recently running through 40 webers and a stock 914-6 exhaust to get an idea of the HP and torque curves. As fo running it with a 915, no probelms at all. This has been runnign though a 901 tranny with no problems, so a 915 is cake.

The dyno chart below is power at the wheels. This equates to about 225HP at the crank and a LOT of torque.
