    FS: 1968 911S (?) coupe...in Beirut.

I've been in Lebanon over the past week, and in a local Beirut paper I saw an ad for a 1968 911S. I called the guy up (he barely spoke english) and went to go look at the car. This is a true project car -- the current owner has had it for 20 years, and 10 years ago converted it into an 80's turbo look, complete with one-piece fiberglass accordion bumpers and fiberglass flares. The color was changed to guards red, of course; the original color, he said, was yellow.

I'm in a far-away place that has spotty internet service, and I haven't had a chance to verify the numbers I took off the car. Lebanon is not a region known for its fastidious business practices,* and for all I know, it's not a '68, or an S, and the motor is wrong, or whatever. It has Zenith carbs, which would suggest that it's a 1970 911T motor, but again, I have no idea.

    Here they are:

    VIN: 300129
    Eng: 6102456 911/03
    Paint: 6405

It might be the case that the best thing about this car is the deep six Fuch rim that's being used as a spare in the front trunk...

*That said, Lebanon is an unexpectedly beautiful country, especially the mountainous regions, and Beirut is a phenomenally cool city. It combines a touch of European sophistication with a great deal of Middle East anarchy. I kinda dig it.

Are you sure on that Vin ?
If it is I can imagine one or two guys on this board getting kinda excited (Eade!!!). That Vin is a very early car, late 64. The colour code matches up too as 64 champagne yellow but as you suspected it's a replacement T engine 1970.

I'm definitely sure on the VIN -- the same number was stamped on both the paint plaque in the door jamb, and in the front trunk.

    Here's a pic:

Gauges -- the steering wheel is 911SC (sans leather cover), and the dash trim is wood. I remember there being a strange lever that came up through the center tunnel, forward of the gearshift lever. I looked at this car for 10 minutes before hurrying to the airport, so I couldn't give it that thorough a look.

Did you get a picture of the engine bay and in particular the rear latch panel?

I'm sorry to do this to everyone, but here is a picture of the car's exterior. The quality of the conversion is abysmal. As Cabell would say: "Savagery!"

The engine compartment is a rat's nest of wiring, with a jerry-rigged CD box and coil. I recall there being no undercoating on the structural members of the engine compartment, like the shock absorber crossmember. The rear latch panel was completely filled in with bondo.

Bondo? Or maybe just flat and original?

Given what's been done to this poor car, I figured that the latch panel was simply filled in with fiberglass or bondo. My knowledge of the particulars of extremely early 911's is pretty limited. However, I have a good memory of the car and if anyone can give me some of the giveaways, I should be able to confirm or deny their presence on this car.

    Talking

That is 911 #129 if it is the correct plate for car, the panel should be flat. Can you fit it is your carry-on
