Earl Green had those gears in front of his 2.7 and it rocked. He spent lots of time on the track with that car.

By the way, I doubt you have a 904 main shaft if F is indeed your second gear. F is fixed on the shaft and was standard in all of the early 911s and 912s.
You are correct on the F second gear. I have a 904 main shaft in my 67S, and it is: A, E, I, O, U, VERY SHORT GEARS. F is a standard 2nd Gear on a normal trans. To have E as a 2nd gear, you then need the 904 shaft. My top speed with this set up and 15 inch tires is about 118MPH at 7,100 RPM. On many Rgruppe runs, I would have people with 2.7 motors ask me what I had in my car, and when I told them a stock 2.0 S, they could not believe I was keeping up with them. Once I told them that when they went by me at 120, I had not backed off, but instead I was done in 5th at 7,100RPM, when they were just going into 5th!! If you want the most bang for the buck, put short gears in your car, and you will have a big GRIN every time you drive it. By the way, I have a 70-71 trans, completely rebuilt with a 904 shaft, A, E, K, Q, V, I think, with limited slip, for sale if anyone is interested.

does anyone have a link or sheet that shows the original gear sets that were in each of the different boxes?
    EG : 901/2 had gears a ga m s x ... etc (it didn't by the way!)

I have three gearboxes here and need to find out what is in them, assuming they have not been changed from stock (highly likely!) Before i rush off and buy some gears for the new box I intend to build.

Carquip has gearing charts on their website, you can download a excel spreadsheet and play to your hearts content. They also have the various Factory tranny set-ups specified in the competetion manuals.

Eade, did you intentionally take all the vowels from the alphabet for your short box!!!! Very funny!!!

I have been putting some effort into sorting out what gears I need. It is an artform to learned! Having fun though, esp after taking the car out since the enhancements, and seeing how it pulls. It was great! Can't wait for the short box to be done now!

Print out the gear chart and then start experimenting with this calculator: http://www.geocities.com/z_design_st...n_993_bit.html

I have three spare gearboxes that I have, and would like to know which case would be preferable to make my new race gearbox on for my 67S.

    The cases are:
    902/1 - A,F,M,S,X (not sure!)
    901/13 - A,F,M,S,Z (pressure cast housing)
    901/07 - A,F,M,S,Z (die cast housing)

Is there a preference to the case that should be used, that may be stronger etc?

i got the logbook and other records for my (new to me) 69E today. the gears are:

    A (11/34)
    F (18/36)
    K (21/30)
    Q (24/27)
    U (26/25)

its drops from about 7500 to 6000 at each change and, like everything else about this car, feels perfectly sorted.
    Cheers, Ryan

U,huh. WOW,that is low,but ideal as far as splits go. I have the same, but chickened outand went with an X 5th. It is still dynamite, but not quite as electric as yours. Better on high speed roadways though. I can see why you are happy!
