    Reverse License Plate Info

I was rear-ended this afternoon while driving home. The guy who hit me took off. I got pieces of the licence plate but not the whole alphanumeric sequence.

I am looking for a FREE database that will allow me to at least match the plate with the type of car so that the LAPD W. Valley Division can do their part in serving justice.

If anyone has any help/info for me I'm all ears.

FWIW, I have the bastard's wheel cap and pieces of his car on my passenger seat. I'm pissed and my back and neck freakin' hurt ....

Marco, if it is a CA registration then that information is not available publicly. The CA DMV does not release any motor vehicle info. About thirty states do but I guess no one should be surprised that CA isn't one of them.

Sorry to hear about what happened but the police are probably going to be your only avenue.

Here is my 2cents worth based on experience.

If you call the police and file an accident report likely the police can match/narrow down the car to lic. plate based on description/make/model of car and what lic info you got.

Now if it were me and you carry a large amt. of uninsured motorist insurance then go that route. More than half the time dealing with another insurance carrier is a pain and in CA half the time or more they don't have insurance or a drivers lic. and owner of the car will "not know who was driving the car" so proof (unless you have other witness) is a crap shoot at best.

I have another witness so that might be of some help to the investigating officer.

My insurance company basically told me that I'm up a creek without a paddle, but I'm willing to do whatever footwork is necessary to bring this fool to justice. I've had nothing but pleasent experiences with Progressive (my carrier) so if I find this guy I'm confident that they'll go after his company. I just want the car fixed and medical bills paid ... I'm not trying to win the lottery.

But, really, I think I'm going to end up getting rear-ended again by the time this all pans out.

    Interesting Update

Yesterday I heard from the investigating officer who is handling my case. He informed me that the driver who hit me turned himself in to the LAPD West Valley Division approximately 3 hours after I made my report.

    UNBELIEVEABLE

Was it luck? Was it conscience? I don't really care ... I'm just glad the guy is going to be held accountable.
