Polish a SS Painted Dansk muffler?

    Shiny Porsche People,

I just received a new grey painted stainles steel Dansk muffler. Can the paint be removed and will I have a nice stainless steel finish. Can I polish it up all nice and shinny? Thanks.

That is a real answer. The paint failed and I removed any remnants. Then the SS was polished. You can do this yourself. Just. Like. Me. Is that a real enough answer?

    Oh, that's clearer now

Thanks. Do you happen to know if after all your work it is essentially identical to the one you buy as polished? I ask because mine has some "weld warts" now, of course covered with paint, and I wonder if these are on all versions.
Was it a lot of work/time polishing it up? Thanks.

Well, after the paint cooked it seemed to come off easily. Its basically primer so its not a tough finish like paint. Although I can't or haven't compaired the two, I think they are the same, painted to polished system. I don't even see the warts you mentioned, but I'm going to look now. Might be something you won't notice?
Also, I should qualify cooked paint. I don't drive this car much (about 2000 miles per year) so the finish was not abused by heat. That being said, I bought this exhaust from AutoFarm in England. It is then modified in-house and shipped to the customer. I just don't know if they start with a primed exhaust or a polished exhaust from Dansk. I do have another Dansk on my 356, also SS and primed, and the two exhausts look the same in finish quality.
Hope this helps. I will look for newer picture of the back of my car so you can see how the exhaust looks today. You can look through some of my older posts if you want to see the painted version. I'm too ashamed to put another picture of my car on this board as I've shown it too many times.

I just went to the garage and your right, I saw the warts. But they don't look out of place.

You don't like it as it is? Looks good to me. And the paint will eventually come off. It starts at the ends of the banana. But this might take a while. Why not enjoy as is? Then you could remove the rest of the paint and polish. So easy even I did it.

    No polish for now

I'll keep the stock appearance for as long as it lasts. Thanks for the advice and Merry Christmas to all!
