Anyone ever heard of a '72 model like this before ?...

A 2.4 T built in March 1971 without the usual (unique) oil tank & external filler flap ?

This car has the following unusual/confusing details:

    VIN: 911 210 0011 (all 3 positions matching)

EPA door jamb sticker dated 03/71 with the above VIN

2.4 mfi T engine (type 911/61) - coupled to sportomatic transmission

    Oil tank/filler in engine compartment

No external oil filler flap (or indent on passenger door jamb where release knob would be)

No signs of replacement right side rear wing (fender)

How could a car built in March '71 have a '72 model VIN ?

    You mean this one

it is the real deal. Very early '72, without one of the usual neatest features

Does it have the flag mirror or round one and are the shallow 6's stamped 71?

    Not my car

This is a car I briefly considered in my quest for a Sportomatic. It is a solid car that needs a total restoration. It has been painted at least twice, and not well, if not more times. The last I heard the car is on the east coast, in DC area.

Seems strange to me. I wouldnt trust it untill I'd seen a Porsche Certificat.

How could March production be a 72 model? Model year is from september until mid august. This should be a 71 modell acording to produktion date. There must be something strange with either the production date or the VIN?

MARCH '71--I'm not buying it...can't be March. The '72 model year hadn't started yet. Mine is '0062 built in the first couple of days in September '71, I believe.

Was the front clip swapped for a later car, as part of a collision repair? (Check the floor pan near the pedals, and the A pillar.)

    Clipped?

The link above is informative and it is an interesting theory that the rear of the car has been replaced. A lot of work for this car and a little hard to believe but anything is possible. I do agree that it weird such a car would be made so early. Maybe the RR was replaced? Here are some photos I received from the seller some time ago.
