    Torque Question

After living with an oil leak between my engine and trans, I've decided to pull the engine and change the seal behind the flywheel. What size socket is needed for the flywheel bolts and what is the torque? 1973 911S
    Thanks

Flywheel bolts should be at 106 ft lbs. As I recall, the flywheel bolts were actually Allen head bolts. I forget what size, but it's within your standard range of Allen head sockets. While you in there, you should also check the clutch, and perhaps detail the engine, and adjust the valves, and........ It's a never ending battle lol. Good luck Allan

They are not actually allen heads, but some oddball "torx" head or whatever they call them. I remember finding one at a NAPA store; they only had two sizes in this weird shape. The bigger one was an exact fit. The one I grabbed has a 3/8" drive socket on it, sort of like allen wrenches used on ratchets so I was able to use a torque wrench on it. I eventually bought a full set of these things from Sears that fit a 3/8" drive ratchet wrench, but the flywheel is the only place you will use one on your 911. I use the rest on my motorcycle, which is almost entirely held together by the damn things.
