    Turbo tie rod installation..any hints?

Since I had so much trouble removing the bearing caps, I decided to do bearings, detailing of spindle and add the turbo tie rods. Can anyone offer some hints so I don't screw up the alignment too badly? I will get entire car aligned when I finish with the rear mods but may have occation to drive until then.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanks

Quick answer is to measure the old tie rods from the center point of the ball joint and where it attaches to the rack. Replicate that measurement with the tubo tie rods and it should get you close. Long answer would be to get 4 jack stands and position them 6" in front and back of the car and 2" off the sides. Run two lengths of string (monofiliment fishing line is good) from the back to the front jack stands on both sides and position the string so it crosses the center of the wheels and is perfectly parallel from side to side. Measure the distance from the center of the wheel cap to the string and they should all be equal. Make sure the string is tight. With the steering wheel perfectly straight, measure the front wheel distance from the back of the outside rim to the string (horizontally) and the distance from the front of the outside rim and the string (as shown by the green lines). For "toe in" which is what every street car uses, the back measurements should be less than the fronts (you want both tires pointed torwards the inside for straight line stability). Figure 0.25" difference to be on the safe side. This should match exactly to the front wheel on the other side of the car. I don't know if this is the recommended toe in adjustment, but it'll keep the car tracking straight, and if it's too much, all you'll have is excessive tire wear. Hope this helps, Happy New Year Allan

    Hi Rick,

I did a brief write up on the TTR swap. I removed the rack to install, but hopefully the pics might help: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/showt...hlight=tie+rod
