No haven't sold the car. Very very vaguely been thinking about it and would only do so at the right price and only to get an Elise. I've been around a few Lotuses recently and they've been intriguing me. I also want a track car, which I know the 72 can be. I've always been very interested in them. Plus as I've expected and predicted they've been dropping in price dramatically. Perfect condition Low mile '05s are buyable for $30k now.

Haven't had my 72 out recently so maybe I should get it out, drive it, track it and shut up!!! I know if I sell it I'll regret it. You know--its a very nicely put together car.

Like I said earlier, I have a habit....
    Cheers,

    Steve

The Elise will be too small. and given the depreciation, I think it'll be a bad investment. Keep the 72 and enjoy it. Bring it out to the small track for the POC STS 1 on Sunday Jan 28th. It'll be a blast. see the POC website for further info.

You're right and I'm driving myself crazy as usual.Do like the Elises and I've never bought a car for "investment" purposes--that used to be real estate!

I'll try and get out to that event. Thinking about the Alltime Racing day on Jan 25th too if I'm in town.

    Steve,
I won't use the "ricer" term again. Your right about image, the 993's got it all over the "other" car. The STi speed advantage isn't everything though. Gordon Murray, creator of the F1 McLaren, favorite car is an old Lotus Elan. He should know a thing or two about speed. I saw an F1 against a
Carrera GT and it ( the F1) was visibly faster. Yet it's creator turns to his Lotus for driving pleasure. Sometimes fast is too fast.

Totally agree on the "more less weight theory" and also that you don't necessarily need a lot of power.

Spanking the 993 and holding the throttle open is more fun than having to hold the throttle closed on my STI.

Another example. I ride bikes. Just bought a Ducati Monster. They come in various engine sizes from an aircooled 695 w/ about 45/50hp to a water cooled 999 with 130hp. I've been riding for a while and my first instinct was the big boy. I slept on it. Rode an air cooled 1000 (90hp) the 800 (75hp) figured the 90hp was just a little more than I need so the 130hp would be way more and settled on the 800.

Again a lot more fun to have to squeeze the throttle and rev it than have to hold back all the time.

The big problem is that there are just so many good and cool cars. Need to work a bit harder so that problem can be solved. Its all fun right???
    Cheers,

    Steve

Great pictures, Chuck. Those cars are fantastic fun. Especially since must observers will not know just how much you are caining it. I took out my 356 for a quick drive around the block. Revved it to redline in first, then second gear,....... through third gear and looked down. I'm going 38 mph. Did anyone realize I just did a Le Mans start? Not a chance, but I had a blast.

This reminds me of something Jay Leno said in a recent Octane...." I like it when 40mph feels like 80mph and not the other way around."

Some of the most fun that I've had in a car was driving an Austin Healy Sprite, I was flat out most of the time and nobody knew.

The 851 is very sweet but you of course know that Ducati's go back a little further than that. Ducati's are the Porsche's of motorcycles! Enough said.

It was the 3.6 swap or a Monster. That's why you guys haven't seen me around recently, Marco....
