those cars and shop pictures look familiar, new name, old tricks, that guy has been repeatedly banned on the Pelican BBS under several names (chris912, Alexzander). Good luck to anyone that thinks they are buying one of his cars, he continues to advertise them, tease people with great deals on rare cars or unobtainable NOS parts, claim them as sold (the yellow 67 s was sold on Pelican for $20k and I think the orange 912 was parted out on Pelican), readvertise them, and not respond to peoples emails and messages for specifics on how to buy parts. Speculation there is he isn't "quite right" and enjoys toying with people...

The guy is called John Small. I tried to buy all his cars (about 20) as a job lot about 3 years ago, even sent someone all the way to Wyoming (?) from England to look at them, but could not close a deal. The man is not playing with a full deck.

Maybe some folks just want reassurance that their *stash* is still desirable?

I've had this experience with mid century modern collectibles - the owner wants to get rid of - until someone actually shows interest. Hell, if you want it... then it MUST be worth a fortune! No longer for sale!

I tried to buy a Turquoise (?) '73 S that had been converted to an RSR-style body (all metal) about 3 years ago - supposedly matching numbers with the original engine upgraded to 2.7RS spec. Reckoned he had all original parts to convert it back to std.

Seem to remember that every car he posted for sale was always covered in a thick layer of dust.

Impossible guy to deal with - I gave up after emailing/phoning over several weeks...

I seem to remember that he popped up again about a year ago when he advertised a red '72(?) S that looked as though it had been dropped from a height onto its roof - I think Ian (toomany911s) came close to buying it ?

I had a similar experience with this guy about 8 mo. ago. Discussions went along on the purchace of several of his cars until the question of transport came up and I said, 'no problem, I will just send up our race rig to pick up the cars.' He then went MIA. I have talked with others who had similar contact, willing to buy everything or just one. As the deals gets serious he pulls back. He did have a list of over 20 cars from drivers to parts cars and lots of spares.

    Andy:

I tried to buy that gulf blue 73S with RSR flares in the early 90s from him. I stopped short of going to see the car because he kept changing the price and would seem to back away when I would make an offer for it. He was asking around $13k back in those days. I talked with him again about that car 5-6 years later...same story. Not sure what is really going on with him, and his cars. I do think he has sold some later model 911s over the years, and maybe some early cars. But don't count on getting that gulf blue 73S-RSR.

I'd never heard of the guy but saw the ad a couple of days ago. It looked way too good to be true, and I didn't give it a second thought. One dusty car listed by a relative, maybe. A warehouse full? No way, not on the open market.
