    Talking no more time

It seems that after 34 years the dashboard clock on my 73S has decided to quit. Yes, I checked the fuse, still OK. Any ideas on what else to check for. I pryed it out of the dash and checked the connections, both looked fine. Is this thing likely headed to Palo Alto or North Hollywood for repair? Any other vendors that you may recommend would also be appreciated. Hey - At least the clock is correct twice a day Thanks,

NH told me they would not repair mine. They say they convert it to quartz.

I was able to repair mine and there is some info on how to repair the Kienzle clock on this board.

There are two articles on clock repair, if you are daring: http://www.pelicanparts.com/911/911tech_articles.htm

    Do a Find on 'clock'.

my vote is to stay mechanical...

if it is a mechanical clock (i'm not sure when Porsche went electric) send it to your local clockmaker. it needs to be cleaned and oiled just like a mechanical wrist watch... remember those ?
i would also burnish the contact points for the coil. please do not use a file burnishers are available through McMaster-Carr IIRC. my local clockmaker does my clocks for $25 ea. YMMV. Palo Alto Speedo used to send their clocks out for cleaning. I don't know what changed. if you need parts... bezel, dial, etc. you're stuck w/ the VDO station, but you don't have to convert to quartz. call me weird, but i really like the sound of a mechanical clock

Ryan, post the message left by the previous owner to let you know the condition of the clock. I'm sure most of our US friends will see the funny side!!

    clock update

Just out of curiosity I paid a visit to Pioneer Porsche in San Diego today and asked if dashboard clocks were still available. Guess what. . . the warehouse has 7 in stock. Price you ask-- $300 after my PCA 15% discount. Next call was to Foreign Speedo in SD, $60 to clean, re-oil and service. Going in tomorrow. Thanks for the replys.

PS Ryan- I love that black Nardi wheel you have. Very nice.

    Nick,

This is the pic that Jappy is referring to - which I posted on our aussie typ901 board.

I bought this car a few weeks ago and, as you can see, as soon as I removed the clock I was easily able to tell why it didn't work:
