I might follow part of the Tour with my 964 like I did for the past 10 years...

Not fixed yet though because I will be moving from Switzerland to Stuttgart in the near future.

Let's make that a Tour de France picture thread!

    2002:

After a quick ride through the country in my 964, and reviewing those pics, I can hardly wait for the new race season at Dijon and chasing the Tour de France...

    Wink Report

I'll try to take pictures and make some sort of report on this thread. I hope it will be fun, I've heard very good things.

Oh, it is good fun for sure. However, in recent years, they rejected some big cars (read: fast and powerful) because they fear some major accidents. That caused the spectacle to be a bit less fascinating. But ok: that's complaining on a very high level...

But I still remember a convoy of 2 RSR, a racing Daytona and a GT40. I was last in the queue. We had just strolled through the countryside at 200kmph and up. When we entered a little village, we were all stopped by police. Well, you would start to fear for your licence, wouldn't you?
However, it turned out a lady was annoyed by the noise of the cars and called the police to stop them. The mayor managed to placate her and we hit the road again - at full revs in first gear. I am still partly deaf from that fantastic noise reverberating from the walls in those narrow streets!

    Chuck,
I remember 2001 very well. It was great to see that T/R and the Tour de France ST drift around a wet LeMans track!

That was also the year Walter Rohrl managed to overtake a 600bhp Corvette in his 356 Carrera on a track with lots of straights.

And I frightened my pants off trying to follow the Almeras 930 Turbo. The driver used to overtake until he could smell the breath of the people in the cars approaching him on the other lane...

But unfortunately no digital scans - only old papers prints of that year...

When I tried to follow a 904 in 1999, driving my beloved 968CS, he outaccelerated me until we reached approx. 220 kmph on a untrafficed country road. I sold the 968 and got my 964 afterwards...

In 2000, I tried to follow a 3.0 RSR in my 964. Better but still: not one single chance. Today, after losing lots of weight and some more horses, we manage to stay with most if not the big RSR. Talk about old cars...
