Thread: Monty MFI-specific muffler

    Monty MFI-specific muffler

    Hi:

I've received many requests about the discontinued stainless-steel Monty Sport Muffler made specifically for MFI-equipped engines and Monty has agreed to make a short run of these if I can order 20.

The internal baffles are indigenous to this particular muffler to prevent the prevalent mid-range flat-spot found with many sport mufflers.

These are ALL 304 stainless-steel (inside and out) and have a 75mm (3") single outlet in the stock location. No other configuration is available with the MFI-special sport muffler.

If this is something you are interested in, please e-mail me directly for pricing and getting on the list.

    Thanks very much.

    sport muffler

Hi Steve- Why would Monty make a sport muffler with only the one stock outlet? Does the two pipe outlet not work for the flat spot handling? Regards Chris Early S Reg.#205

    Hi Chris:

The baffling is specific to these mufflers to provide the appropriate amount of back pressure and scavenging in these somewhat sensitive motors. Monty elected to design and develop the single outlet version of their Sport mufflers to appeal to the widest number of people due to noise issues.

Other versions such as the dual outlet (ends) and the twin-pipe Sport mufflers were not tested, developed, and modified for MFI engines.

My dyno experience with these mufflers is that there is no power difference (only sound level) in their single, dual and twin-pipe versions up to 3.4 litres.

For the larger 3.6 & 3.8 motors, their normal range of mufflers is a bit restrictive and we have Monty make a special version for these "big-block" motors that restores lost HP.

    Steve -

THis design would not benefit a motor with 46's? Sounds like a nice piece!!

These work just fine on carbureted motors and in fact, help the linearity of the air-fuel curves depending on camshaft profile. They are VERY well made and carry a lifetime warranty against corrosion.

Is there a photo available of the muffler? What will the cost be?

    Hi Frank:

Typically, these add 5-7 HP and about the same gains in torque, most of which occurs in the mid-range. Its definitely noticable, at least to me.

Depending on your individual MFI pump, you might need to richen it a few clicks to see the full improvement. These things do vary,....

I respect Steve's opinion and expertise over most I've ever read....

However a simple search on the board under 'Monty Muffler' will give you a bunch of opinions.... including mine
