    Extended Hub retrofit kit................

    Guys,
I recently bought a nice 400mm leather wrapped wheel with the extended hub because it is on my cardex. It will go on my shelf because I prefer the 380mm wheel. Like many of you , I could really use the steering wheel extention so that I could slide my seat back an additional notch.

I have done the research on the materials and processes to perfectly duplicate the OEM extended hubs. I can have the hubs made and supply the buyer a choice of the correct rivits or nut and bolt hardware. I would even offer the tools needed to crush the rivits on a lease/return process. This way, any of us could retrofit any Porsche 380mm or 400mm wheel to an extended hub!

Unfortunatly, the material for the hub is more expensive than expected and machining a small run is expensive as well. Retail on this piece will likely be in the $125-135 range.

I am looking to gauge interest in how many would be willing to purchase this hub before I invest in material. Also, how many would be willing to pre-pay?
The kit would be the hub, rivits or hardware, instructions and the option to lease the die and arbor to crush the rivits. The only thing holding me back right now is the horn contact.

    Let me know.............

Can you please why the horn contact is holding you back?

    Well,
The horn contact willhave to be longer due to the deeper hub, but George K contacted me and told me that these are still available from Porsche. Problem solved - thanks George

Will the hub be finished or bare? How tall are you anyway? I'm 6'1" and could use some more leg room but the wheel gets away from me when I do. Thanks, David

Sitting in the seat, holding the steering wheel, is the 'deeper hub' where the nut goes on the thread? Do you have the special 'washer' w/ your wheel?

    Dave,

What will the length of the spacer in hub be? In the wheel I bought from George that he made up, the spacer is 1 1/8" (about 27-28mm?). It is a great modification for me (6'3"). Not only is it more comfortable for my arms but it makes shifting easier because I don't have to try to shift around my right knee all the time.

What did the factory extended steering wheels use to support the rubber cup for the horn button to work? I had to fabricate a piece that goes into deeper hole created by extending the hub.

    An alu washer/lid w/ a small hole.

Is this also what Dave was referring to?

The spacer is 30mm from my measurements.

Brian, I have not investigated the "backing plate" for the horn button, but this should be fairly simple. If anyone has a picture of the factory part, this would help.

The extension is sandwiched between the spoke area of the wheel and the center hub. Longer rivits are used to hold it all together.
There is an extended hub wheel for sal on this site right now if you want to see one.

Put me down for one hub extension kit for my 380mm wheel when you get it all figured out.
