Excellent outing. I decided to go at the last minute and shot out to the track for a couple of hours between appointments to check on the festivities. Beautiful day with some wonderful machines and even better people. The folks from Motorsport Mag. and Pelican were there and took great care of us. It was one of those perfect "all the stars lined up" kinda days. Living in So. Cal. is way cool.

Thank to all who hosted for an excellent adventure.

    RS Shootout ?

I was one of the LUCKY ones who was invited to Willow.

It really was the perfect day for Willow. Bright sun, cool air temp., NO winds, max of 6 cars on the track. Other times, you had the track to yourself.

In the photo I posted, the cars belong to lt. to rt.: Jack Olsen, Wayne Dempsey, Ray Crawford, Eade Hopkinson, Rob Dickinson, and Will Sanchez.

Tim Suddard, publisher of Classic Motor Sports, and Grass Roots Motor Sports,
along with Wayne Dempsey, owner of Pelican Parts, put it together.
The 'ol compare and contrast a real RS vs. the clones.

The spin with this was that there really was not a "true" clone to compare the RS with. There was the RS, and all the dfferent versions people could come up with. No real pushing of the cars. NOT looking to see who was the fastest. I would not call it a Shootout

Tim Suddard did drive all the cars. He was VERY respectful, just wanted to feel the uniqueness of each car. He is a good guy, very professional. He paid for the track, treated us to a great lunch, took great care of the cars. What more could you ask?

Thanks to Tim and Wayne for putting it on, and the invite.

You can read the several threads on Pelican, started by Wayne.

As a side note: I will bring up the topic of renting out Willow for the day. Cost is approx. $3000.00 for the Streets. Divide the cost by 15-20 people, $150-200 per person. Drive at your pace, skill. Any interest???

Rock on Ray. I'm very interested in a quiet day with 20 of our closest......I'm sure the others are too. Let us know how we can participate.

Very cool guys! Classic Motorsports is one of my favorite magazines. Hal Crocker's monthly column is worth the price of admission alone (this month about Derek Bell, McQueen and LeMans, last month Vic Elford). Looking forward to the article.

OK...I'm gonna go waaaaay out on a limb here and ask the question: So, like, who clocked the fastest times in this RS Shootout???? Was it the driver, the car or the combo that did it best???? Inquiring minds who 'wished the heck they were there' would like to know.
