Tulsarama! The Story of a Plymouth Buried in 1957

This is a great story. Rather than me try to tell it here, just go to http://buriedcar.com/ Be sure to click the photo to view the video. It will really be interesting to see the condition of the car when it is exhumed.

Probably be the top seller at BJ next year. Think about it.

    Tulsarama

Great find Ed! Having been born in Tulsa in '56, I'm especially interested, and hoping that my mother guessed the correct population and wins the car.

    Bob,

I was born in Paducah in '56. The only thing they buried there was uranium.

One article I read surmised that it will come out as just a rusted hulk as cars of this vintage did not have the advantage of galvanized steel (kind of like our early cars!) and especially if the seal of the "capsule" did not hold. Hope they're wrong!

    About to be exhumed!

This Friday, June 15 is the day they exhume this car that was buried 50 years ago in Tulsa. This really is a great story. You'll be able to watch a live feed of it being unearthed online. Find a lot more about it here http://www.tulsaworld.com/webextra/c...d/default.aspx and here http://buriedcar.com/

UPDATE....Well, I just read further in the website and apparently today they determined that the 'vault' it was buried in has taken on water over the years. Still no one knows exactly what condition the car will be in but my guess is very RUSTY!

What was the technology back in '57 that kept things waterproof? Concrete? You'd think they would have consulted a cemetary or something. Not that they would know any better. However, they would have told them that concrete doesn't work.

Hans Siebenga and his friends Marco Crijns and Maurice Crijns, who are brothers, came from the Netherlands. The three are car collectors who heard about the Belvedere eight months ago and came to Tulsa for the historic moment.

They joked about their disappointment of the condition of the car when it was unwrapped, but they admired its history and Tulsa, which they said they like better than New York City.

"If I bought one 50 years ago and set it outside, it would still be better," Siebenga said of the Belvedere.
