    1964 911 #300170 for sale

Came across this site on an early 64 911 for sale. Good pics & story.

Looking at this site reminded me of Eade Hopkinson's 1964 911 #221 under restoration. I recall at the time he was still searching for the elusive 4 screw horn grilles.

Eade how is that project coming along?

I think 300170 belongs to the guy who claims he caught Porsche "faking" the restoration of Seinfeld's 300049. That's what I get from the site anyway. I'd guess the price is high since it's been for sale for quite some time now.

300012 is for sale at elevenparts.com for EUR 135,000 (A LOT less than the reported cost of Seinfeld's).
    What a sweet car!

Just a question to ponder... is it considered "faking" if it's the factory that's doing the work? I suppose it could be... there's that other thread discussing this issue...

    Restoration or Replacement

I've often wondered the same thing Erwin. It's a tough one to call isn't it. The body has to be the biggest single component, but if it's beyond economical repair what else can you do. Reutter provided replacement body shells for seriously crashed 356's in the 50's.

I remember there was a court case here in the UK after the restoration of a 1920's Bently. The car had been crashed so badly when racing in the '20's that the only original panel used in the restoration was one of the bulkheads. The arguement was could you consider the car a restored original or a recreation. If I remember correctly the court decided it was a restored/repaired original.
