    Tree different answers.

    911/57; this is a 1972 euro 911T engine, range 6520001-6523284

    653248; 1973 911T engine range 6530001-6533239 (911/59)

There is something strange with your numbers fg1227. The type number is 1972, the engine number is 1973. The enginenumber should have one more digit?

(I am no expert, just read it in the "redbook" )

    Racing engines:

    911/20 - 1970
    911/21 - 1971-72
    911/22 - 1971
    911/70 - 1971
    911/72 - 1972 RSR
    911/73 - 1972

911/57 was the Euro 2.4T (with Zenith carbs rather than mfi used in the US) manufactured in '72 & '73.

The engine number 6532948 ties in with the serial number range for this engine.

However, this could quite easily have been used as the basis for a 2.5 competition engine ...

7R case used in the build-up of a spare GR6 engine for FIA-sanctioned Euro events. The rules allow for a period legal engine (castings made no later than Dec. 73 and a displacement not to exceed 2.5-liters)

Accept for the case, the heads, internals, carbs, rods. oil-pump, crank etc... were all NOS spares with the 914/6GT. The engine case was chosen by Wayne Baker as the safest engine case to build up that would still comply with the current rules.

    Cheers,

    Bill

    Bill,

Could you explain "GR6 engine for FIA-sanctioned Euro events. The rules allow for a period legal engine (castings made no later than Dec. 73 and a displacement not to exceed 2.5-liters)". Are these the current FIA rules? You can use a 2.5L, rather than a 2.0L? And where can I find a copy of those rules?

    Thanks,
    John
