    6's n' 7's or 7's all round??

My '72 'sports purpose' rebuild is coming along well....
I'm getting to thinking about finishings and the question of wheels/tyres.

I have resisted the temptation to go flares on the rear - so what I'm dealing with is a standard LWB narrow body.

I dabbled with the idea of 7R's on the rear - but have now discounted this.

The options I would like to consider are
    1) 15" Deep 6's on front - Flat 7's on the rear.
    2) 15" Flat 7's all around.

    Finish would be adonised Fuchs.

To help me in my decision could anyone post pics of either / both of these combo's? with opinions on tyre size / appearance.

I'm looking to get a 'hot rod' sports purpose look, without being too

I'm running NEW Bilstein Sports all around, SC brakes and std '72 sway bars.
I have a Prototipo steering wheel.
Would 7's on thr front be hard work?

    Thanks for your help

Never heard of the 7s front and rear. I think 6s front and 7s rear is what most people use because it works. Not much new to discover with these old cars, right? Deep 6s and 7Rs is the way to go in my book. But keep us posted. Computer crash keeps me from posting pictures. Other members, please accept the challenge.

Here ya go, 7's front and rear. This car is long gone so I can't give any specifics on tire size.

    My .02.

I have 7's on the rear and flat 6's on the front. To me, it looks awkward with not as much chrome in the front. I've never seen deep 6s beside flat 6s so I don't know how they compare. My car is in the shop right now so I can't send you any photos.

I committed a sin by putting 50 series on car. It definitely does not look original as there is alot of space between the wheels and fenders. I'm sure there are tires out there that have a stiff sidewall but I plan on autoXing and performancxe outweighs looks and originality.

Mine are 7x15 all around. Shots with the door open are using 205/55 S03. Others are using 205/60 G-Force Sport. I think Karl uses 7" all around on his Targa too (although now that I look again, those may be flares and 8s on Karls car...). You might check with JimR (Jim Richards), seems like he used to run 6/7 combo on his '73E for a while.

The problem with combining 6 and 7 is the amount of black versus silver at the rim with stock appearing finishes. I've thought in the past that if you were to vary where the black stops at silver starts, you may be able to make the 2 work together, although I've never seen it happen. Or, just paint them solid black.

    7's All Around

Here's my SWB with 7's all around, which is the configuration I use for the track:

I run 911R 7's in the back and deep 6's in the front on the street. They're currently on the car and I can take a picture and post it if you like.

A driver far more experienced than me thought that there might be a bit too much rubber on the car with all 7's, which are mounted with Yoko AO32R 225/50 semi-racing tires. But remember, this is a SWB car.

The street 7/6 setup has Yoko AVS ES100 225/50's in the rear and 205/55's in the front. I should probably try that on the track one of these days - but those 911R wheels are stinkin' expensive.

    tires

I'm running flat 6's on the front and 7's on the rear on my 73' S. Tires are Dunlop SP 5000 205/50 front, and 215/50 rear, which aren't made any longer. I'm tied up on what tires to get as well. I want a higher profile tire for sure, but not much is available in a 60 profile for the 6's and 7's. I am assuming a 225/60 tire won't work on the 7" rear, right?

What about flat 6's all around with the rear ones made into 7R specs. Would look correct and give the extra meat in the back. I know some of the wheel guys can modify the 6's to do that?

I'd be surprised if it worked, unless you raise the car a good bit. My 205/60 have been known to rub on big bumps when I have a passenger and a weekend's worth of luggage.
