Link to my 73E restoration Pictures

In no particular order. Ive got some pictures of my fenders in bare metal somewhere in my computer, trying to find. They were as nice a pair as Ive ever had. I bought a Cad plating system... no waiting. Just thought you all would find these interesting.

Thanks for the pictures Bill; Looks like shes coming along well.

You are getting me psyched for my color change and door jamb repair; no front pan for me....

Btw-What are the details on your cad-plating system?

Thanks-I am beginning to see progress. The suspension components are at the media blasters (my father in law), almost ready for a coat of satin black. The pan was done many years ago. It was solid, but not so pretty, so I dressed down the welds, re welded some spots, repaired the recessed nut for the battery strap. I stripped the undercoating and paint, and used POR-15. The blue primer is a POR-15 top coat, so regular paint/undercoating will stick to the cured POR-15. Is cures so hard that a tie coat is needed for adhesion. Here is the link for the Cad system. Thanks for looking-Bill

    Bill,

Nice photos, looks like you are making some good progress. Have you decided what color you are going to paint it? Dalmation Blue?

    Cad plating kit.

That cad plating kit looks interesting. How hard is it to use - I assume you bead blast all the parts prior to plating? Do you have any control over how shiny or dull the plating is?

    Car looks great!

I bought a parts jiggler from Eastwood. Put some Black Beauty in with some nuts and bolts, come back the next day, and you have clean parts. You have to use Muratic Acid to remove the old Zinc or Cad finish after they are clean. Its really simple. It is a time killer though, because its so entertaining. You control the finish with the Yellow Chromate solution. Your parts come out shiny, like a new dime, from the Cad plating. You then dip them in the Chromate solution to the desired color. Concentration of the solution, and duration control the tint and shine. I am still learning how to get desired results. Some of the stuff comes out looking like art work. Some of the stuff comes out, and goes right back in the acid to try again. Different manufacturers bolts tint differently. Kamax bolts are the best. Some of the others are a real challenge to get to look correct. The stamped sheet goods are easy. You can use new Silver Zinc plated fasteners, dip them in the Yellow Chromate solution, and have Yellow Zinc tinted hardware. One note, you dont want to mix your Muratic Acid with your plating solution, which is Cd suspended in Cyanide. Hydrogen Cyanide Gas tends to ruin your weekend.

Nice set of pics. It's a long, hard journey but the end result is beginning to appear.
