not sure you would need expert with Porsche to get a good paint job just a good paint shop in general. more important to know paint codes, matching techniques, prep quality etc. than necessarily mark expertise, but if you can find both all the better IMO

If you do all of the prep yourself, you can have any good shop do it. The expertise is needed when you are having the shop disassemble the car. FYI, disassembly means cubic dollars.

I did all the disassembly and reassembly on one of my cars and it saved my real big bucks. Only thing I'd leave for someone else next time is the headliner and glass install its a PITA. I also did all the masking of the suspension, .....

Hah. Freudian slip...that title started out as car pain shop!
Hi Chris, I'm in Ashland. I just had my car painted by a local shop. Dennis at South Valley auto body took my primered, down-to-metal amateur restoration job, did some fixups of little things I missed, and did the full paint job for $2K. For an additional $250 he did a cut-and-buff 6 weeks after painting. I must say, I am very happy with the paint job I got for this price. My car has 480K miles on it and has been through the mill. I wanted nice but not show-quality, and that's what I got.
My advice? Find a local shop where you can hang out and check on things. Find someone who is interested in doing a good job the way YOU want it, not just in-and-out. It's pretty obvious, when you visit a few shops, who takes pride in thier work. I visited a couple of shops who had good reputations with the hot rodders, and these guys bragged a lot. Estimates were from 8K to 10K, and they did NOT want me involved, they wanted to strip the car and do it all themselves. Dennis was wiling to work with me. He's not a Porsche specialist, but he's done a few, and there were some really nice no-expense-spared jobs (not Porsche) in the shop while my car was being done. Oh, and I saw a local silver 2005 911 in for fender bender repair during that time, and when it left I absolutely could not tell it was repaired!
If you find the right shop, you will need to be patient. If they are good, they are busy. My job took almost 2 months, but because I'm local, I always knew where I stood in line. And Dennis did not mind me being in there every other day to look.
Hope that helps.
