Anyone know of a source in the US?

  2. #2
Follow this thread and you will enventually see a place listed in Ft. Lauderale, FL.
I just bought a pair of Vartas (non gel) for my 73T. They fit perfectly and cost around $65 per battery.

    Waiting time...

Just an FYI, I've been on the waiting list there for a couple of weeks for some new batteries type A512/40A. The story I'm told is that they're having trouble getting the batteries from their current source.

    Good luck!

Over here in Europe where they are produced, the Sonnenschein gel batteries go for Euro113,00 each with shipping included. This was the cheapest price I could find. Maybe the place in FT Lauderdale is having difficulty getting them because they have underpriced them in the States. Euo113 works out to around US130. Previous posts on the battery thread state that the co in FL is selling them for US75????

I talked to Norways largest importer of batteries, and main supplier to the goverment yesterday and he said Sonnenschein batteries, even if rated as gel batteries, had problems with leaks. He said that among the best where the American Concorde batteries that is used for the aircraft industry. and Optima used as an example by the Norwegian and US military.

I my selves bought the English Haze gel batteries in the correct dimensions and 44amps. They are originally designed to be used in electric vehicles and are far better then for example Varta and the standard wet acid car batteries.

What experience do you have with different batteries?

    Hi John,
Interesting info. What did you pay for your Haze batteries? What is the size(dimensions)?
I put Vartas in my 73 two weeks ago because they were immediately available, they fit like a glove and they were reasonably priced at around €65 each.
I ölike the two battery option because of the factory's intention for improving weight distribution, and the fact that two medium sized batteries at 45amp each beats the 65-80 amps offered by a single large battery.

Gruen911; the dimention of the Haze batteries are the exact same as the originals. The price I paid was 245$ for two batteries. (two Varta wet acid, 200$) Its important to know that compared with the US everything is twice the price in Norway, and about30-50% more than Germany. As I mentioned I am no expert on batteries, and even if the company I visited is the larges distrubuter of batteries to the goverment and industry, they speak warm about their own products! I looked at the spec of the haze batteries, and the reason they are prefered is that they can be stored for 8 months and still have 70% capasity.

Sonnenschein gel batteries are available at www.batterysalesusa.com They are $130. ea plus shipping. They are the exact size of the oem, NO changes are needed to install. #DF75 I have this type in all my 911's since 1989, NO CORROSION. They do not like being charged at more than 14 volts, 13.8 preferred.
