Interior 'style' question for the aesthetes...

    Warning: this threads involves tartan...

I would like some input on an idea I can't seem get out of my head. Don't be afraid to tell me its dumb...

I'm prepping a 69E for historic racing at present. The car has a silver exterior and and all black RS style interior. I'm leaning towards a dark red/burgundy stripe (see photochop pic of Bob T's car) and I thought some similar tones might work well in the interior. The car will have one period leather seat and one modern racing seat, both currently black.

I've attached some pics of a mocked up red tartan insert for the period style passenger seat. Its also easy to do the same to the removable center of the modern racing seat on the driver's side (to visually tie them together), plus I need to have one re-made to fit me better anyhow.

I've seen the blue/green fabric inserts on a few cars and always liked the effect.

So, what do you think? I like the concept but think the fabric need to be a darker/duller (ie. more burgundy less red). Photochop anyone?

clearly the Sydney Mardi Gras has got the better of you!!!

Go for plain maroon inserts... much cleaner and nicer - IMHO

There is always the proper race colors...Stewart Plaid. A little zippy red on a dark background.

Who cares what others like! Do what makes you happy. One thing I have seen on these boards, is that there is little consensus on aesthetics.

P.S. I like the burgandy against silver. (Not that it really matters

After shoveling snow for the past few weeks a lumberjack plaid is looking like the national colors up here. Might be a little brighter than the Stewart Black, ya think?

alex - its only a trial, i agree the glittery gold is a bit much...

andrew - that's pretty cool, the red is quite subtle. do you have a source?

rick/bob - thanks for the link & comments.

    Ryan,
Put the table clothes back on table and no one will get hurt. Might work, you could be ahead of the curve on next retro look, today houndstooth tomorrow plaid.
