MFI injection pump - expect it to be seized? Surprised

    Hi

Today I started to strip an engine that belongs to a very rare 1970 car which has sat dormant for some time. It has also been stored outside for a few years and thus does not look that great either.

Anyway, I always expect any MFI injection pump to be seized, even after a few years. I should add that I have freed and worked on a fair few of these pump so I had already thought this one would be seized solid and was expecting it to be so. So how shocked am I when the motor looks like this......

and closer up the pump looks like this.........

and yet not only does the pump turn over by hand, the rack is also free and also each of the fuel valves are also free. It really has surprised me, these MFI pumps seized relatively easy if not used and yet this one, even after years of storage (outside) and looking like the surface of the moon still works… amazing.

Lets hope the rest of the car is ok, but that’s another thread.

    Thanks

    Alan

Did you find that on your last scuba diving holiday?

I am curious how many of the magnesium parts are still usable.
