Gentlemen, I have decided to list here first because I would prefer that a fellow member have first chance on this rare find. I just purchased this car from the widow of the original owner. He bought the car new from German Auto (Porsche Dealer) here in Birmingham, Alabama on 1/19/71 for $7,705. The original window sticker states that the car listed for $7,291, so I don't know where the additional $400+ came from. Anyway, the car has the following equipment per the window sticker, 5 speed trans. $135, silver metallic paint $200, AM-FM radio Frankfurt $195, appearance group $170, and tinted windshield $45. The car has only been driven 62,450 miles since new! I can of course verify this by the service history and by the lady whom I bought the car from. According to both sources, the car was used until about 1992. It was then parked in their climate controlled garage and covered. The car was started from time to time and even driven around the neighborhood some. She told me that it hasn't been driven at all in the last 5 years. She also stated that her husband re-furbished the brakes last year. I aired up the tires and put the car on a flat bed wrecker and took it home. The fuel tank was drained, the points were cleaned, new plugs were installed, and the Zenith carbs had new carb kits installed. The car fired right up. The motor is tight! It holds good oil pressure and runs at 180 degrees. It idles smoothly just below 1K RPM. It pulls strong through all the gears, but does stumble off idle. I suspect that the carbs need tuning and synchronizing. The 901 gearbox shifts perfectly with no syncho issues. The clutch operates just as it should too. Everything works! All lights, guages, radio, horn, wipers, etc. Even incidental things like the glovebox light, trunk light, fog lights, and clock work perfectly! The only thing that I have done to this car other than what I listed above is wash the dust off of it. I have not waxed or buffed the paint, nor have I even touched the interior. The body is arrow straight and rock solid. It has never been in an accident nor has it ever been rusted. The original undercoating is still present and the original paint is still in the door jambs and other places. The original owner had the car professionally re-sprayed many years ago in the original metallic silver. The paint is very good, but not concours. I'm sure that it would look much better if it were professionally cut and buffed. It is more than presentable as is without even touching it. The gaps and shut lines are excellent as is the stainless, chrome, and glass. The interior is very near perfect. There are no cracks in the dash (not even by the speaker) and the seats, carpeting, headliner, etc. show very little to no wear. The door pockets are very nice as well. Again, the overall appearance of this car is excellent original. The original 2.2 serial # 6115629 is very strong and original. It has never been opened up. The original owner did have Carrera tensioners and SSI added many years ago, and the clutch was replaced as well. As I previously mentioned, the motor, trans. and clutch are all in excellent conditon. I would recommend having a full service performed for obvious reasons (I have only driven the car about 25 miles). The tires have very few miles on them according to the service history, but they are very old. I don't see any dry rot and they seem to roll down the road OK, but they are old. The brakes seem very good. I'm pretty sure that the front calipers have been replaced. The original owner's widow told me that he worked on them last year, so I guess that is when he replaced them. I don't know if it had S calipers originally or not. It currently has cast iron calipers front and rear. However, it does have front and rear sway bars, Koni shocks, and the S appearance package. The bumper guards and fog lights may have been added by the dealer. I'm not sure. The motor is nice and dry with only a very small oil leak. The 14" Fuchs are original and the spare wheel too. I have the tool kit, jack, owner's manual, all books, original maint. booklet, window sticker, bill of sale, keys, etc. The original owner kept everything. He was a charter member of the PCA's Alabama region back in 1970. The last stamp in the maint. booklet was at the end of 1992. The car had 60,010 miles at that time. I could go on and on (maybe I already have). I have the complete history for this car. This is obviously a rare find. If you have been looking for an untouched original true low mileage early 911 then please call me. I welcome your questions and or inspections. I would like to get $25K for the car. The only reason that I have decided to sell the car is that I have been wanting an early 911 ST look car and I don't like silver very much. I would consider a trade for an early 911 in more of a vibrant color. You can call me at, 205-276-1918.
