    Pace Car

The thread on Police Porsches begs another question.

Does anyone know where to get a vintage light bar and the other equipment to make a car a pace car suitable for vintage races?

I've been thinking of volunteering my targa as the pace car for the vintage race series that come to our local track.

I think I recall that back in the day, Targa's were used more than coupes as pace cars...My guess is that they were the most expensive models and as such the local dealers wanted them highlighted.

I am interested to hear if others have done this or have any idea's where to source the lights bars etc.

    Thanks

I have never seen a vintage race paced except for Rennsport 2. Cool idea though.

    VARA uses a pace car...

Out here on the left coast, VARA has used a pace car at least as long as I've been involved with the organization (I joined up in '90). In fact, I was VARA's Pace Car Driver for two full seasons while I was finishing up my 911...Pace car duty is really a lotta fun - you get to practice your line all day long, and you're in front...all day long.

The Pace car is also used in emergency yellow flag/red flag situations as well. We use Mustang GT ragtops out here. For lapping track days, like ARCA, OTR, etc. You don't need a Pace Car...however, I couldn't imagine running any sort of organized race event without one.

A Targa (or a ragtop) with a light bar would work real well - I would lean towards a newer car with a tip in it. Manual tranny's don't play well in a Pace Car application...

This was not the pace car but a quick PCA 914/6 racer.....Though it would help the imagination......
