    Spyder/356 GT Mirror on 67S

Some years ago VW&Porsche Magazine (now European Car) ran an article on the early 911S.

One of the cars was described as having a factory installed 356 GT or 550/RS Spyder style side view aerodynamic mirror housing.

As I recall, this '67S was silver and still in the hands of the original owner.

Does anyone have a photo of the car that shows clearly the placement of the mirror?

I am thinking of using such a mirror on an ST clone. The gas lid on the fender is deleted.

    Thanks for any help.

356 GT / Spyder side view mirror on 67S

    Chuck,

The archival resources of the Art Committe know no bounds! Thanks for coming up with the picture.

I wonder whether that is the car from the old VW&Porsche article? There is a 67S out there that came with this type mirror. It is a slick piece, with lots of werks race heritage on the Spyders 550 - RSK- RS60 - RS61.

I guess the last use was on the series 1964-65 356SC GT coupes. The mirror in the photo looks just like those on the SC GT. Are there any other 911 examples out there?

I see that the mirror is positioned well forward on the fender, in front of the gas lid. I was thinking of positioning one on my 71S - ST a bit further back, as the gas lid is to be deleted.

    Thanks,

    Tom

    Sebring Style

    Michael:

Sure, the Sebring looks great and was used on lots of sports and racing cars in the late 60s and 70s.

Thanks for the photo - superb car - and no gas lid of course!

Is that the ex Astronaut car? Can't remember who. I want to say Armstrong but, that could just be because of who I think of first.

I thought I remember seeing that type of mirror on that car. Maybe it was a Talbot. Definitely stuck in my mind as not being a Durant.

    Eade's 1967S

I'm sure Eade will chime in on this, too. The Astonaut who previously owned his car was Walter Cunningham, famous from Apollo 7, and who had factory ordered that mirror.
