    Recaro's

From 800$ up to say 2500$ per seat in perfect condition. Probably even higher. The chrome seat hinges are not period correct...

Those could be the BMW version given the chrome recliners. I have heard there can be a slightly different spacing in the mounts and may not work with our bases. The bases are not Porsche. The seat coverings look original and in pretty good shape excluding that one bolster. Price could be all over the place depending on the knowlege of the buyer.

As for the sellers knowlege?.....or scruples?

'73 Porsche sport seats would not have basket weave inserts, and would have the double lock slider mechanism - if the actual year features are important to you.

Just a followup/observation to further Jared's response. These are the period aftermarket "sport seats" that Porsche made in the late 60's to 1973 (roughly). Impossible for them to have a double locker slider.... as the slider is actually "built into" the seat like the 67/68 Porsche sport seats. The Porsche 1969 to 1973 seats actually have the slider built into the bottom bracket. These seats were a generic type of seat....roughly the equivalent to the 1968 Porsche seat due to the headrest confirguration, and then the brackets would be whatever application you would need to fit whatever type of foreign car you had. I've owned a couple of pairs of these, and sometimes the bolt holes match up....and sometimes they don't.

so by generic, you mean "o.e.m" i.e. recaro sports seat that were available at the time as aftermarket items suitable for porsche, bmw etc.so other than fabric and locking mechanism these are identical style wise to '73 911s/rs sport seats.....?

    Hi,

The seats themselves are pretty much the same as those used from 69-73, but I think there are some changes in the padding. The main changes across those years is in the tilting frame. Those seats on ebay as you know are not Porsche frames but they still may work, I'm not sure. But I have seen recaro sport seats where the spacing between the frame tabs is different, and therefore I could not fit Porsche tilting frames to the seats without extra work.

Here are a few others cars the seats were available in

73 Porsche frames, were different than 69-72 in that the locking mech locked on both side. Here is a pic of ones I recently restored.

The mounting for the 2nd release bar actually arrived in the mid 72 production year so they are also specific.

    Hope this may help someone

    Thanks

    Alan

Recaro is a contraction of REutter CAROsserie -- the people who made a lot of 356 bodies. They were a separate company from Porsche. Just an OEM supplier. To my eye, these seats look wider than the sport seats built for Porsche. AFAIK, BMW, and presumably other manufacturers, used wider seat mounts than Porsche did prior to '74.

I don't believe those will bolt in. Pete, on your car there are two allan head bolts on each corner of the seat sliders to hold the seats to the car. These have only one AND it's at a 90 degree (down) angle.

I bought a pair of BMW seats and tried to make them work. Head room was the killer. I was able to resell the seats for a small profit :-) These look to me like they are for a BMW.

    Alan,

The changeover to the "double locker" commenced on October 16, 1972 for the 1973 Model year, ....which means it was already well into the 1973 model year. This is from a USA version workshop manual, and this update was dated XXVII- 1973.

Interestingly they also mention the double locker changeover for the standard seat as well, for MY 1973, and this change commenced on July 24, 1972 (the beginning of the model year?).

    regards,
    Eric
