Which tires for my '67 911S survivor? 4.5x15 fuchs

I am making good progress on my '67 911S survivor I talked about here:

    http://www.early911sregistry.org/for...ht=Survivor67S

I had Al Reed refinish the 4.5x15 Fuchs and am ready to buy tires for it. What size are ideal for these skinny Fuchs? Are there any tires available that have a retro look to them? I'm keeping the 15x6 magnesium wheels for high performance driving, and will use the 4.5s for show.

I refinished the fuel tank with the POR15 kit (what a mess!), replaced all the fuel lines, replaced the tensioners, soaked the cylinders in Marvel Mystery oil and changed the crankcase oil. All that's left is to crank it over to build oil pressure, then throw in new spark plugs, plug wires, cap and rotor, and she should fire right up! Can't wait to hear her go VROOOOMMM!!!!

And then I get to tackle the brakes...*sigh* I love working on 911s but brakes are my least favorite part.

American Racing - Torque Thrust and Torque Thrust D

Sorry Wrong Thread on my Last>

Most of these should or will correctly fit the 4.5x15's and give you the "right" Look. The 155 will be a bit thin but fit the rims.

    AVON CR 6ZZ in 175/70 15 ($201) or 155R15 ($197)
    Dunlop 450L-15 ($227)
Goodyear Blue Streak 5.00-15 G12A(K) (might) but would look much better on the Torque thrusts
    Vredenstein Sprint 165HR 15 ($72.43-89)
    Vredenstein Sprint Classic 155SR15 ($68.50)
    Michelin XAS 165HR 15 ($195)

If you have the cash and want the correct look, my vote goes to Michelin or Dunlop.

Thanks for the tire suggestion, Sithot, but I was thinking more along the lines of a modern tire with a vintage look. Does anyone make such an animal? Those XAS Michelins require tubes.

    Avon & Vredenstein

Finding a modern high performance tyre that thin is problematic but the Avons (tarmac rallye) and Vredenstein's would meet your needs. slb

I have Vredestein Sprint Classics on mine (165/70/15). They are HR rated, and have been happy with both the look and the performance. They are tubeless. You'll actually be surprised how well the car performs with these tires. The conventional wisdom seems to be that these things are borderline unsafe with 165s.

I'm leaning toward these Vredestein classics:

Is Universal tire a good place to buy from? Where did you get yours? I'm located in SoCal.

I have a tire guy who mounts my race tires and is very careful, but I hear that these Fuchs are very difficult to mount tires on. Any tips I could tell him to help him out and prevent damage?
