    H1 Identification

I’ve gone through as many past threads regarding H1 headlights for my ‘67S, prior to posting this threat as I’ve deemed prudent.

Since some of the threads (sales and otherwise) contradict themselves, and the references I have only show lenses and no full pictures I’m adrift in a sea of chrome rings and lens.

Understanding that the lenses are different between H1 & H4 and the Euro lights are non-sealed beam versus the DOT required sealed for US spec.

What are the other differences and does anyone have some proper reference photos.

I have a number sets and they all have minor differences (2 adjustment screws/ versus 4, Bosch stamped on some clear lenses/versus no marking, I even have Cibie inserts which take H4 bulbs, which I know are not correct but will be used for obvious reasons) and I would like to get them all sorted out and at least get a proper set.

    Thanks Sumner

The distinguishing features of Bosch H1 headlamps which are the easiest to spot are:

4 adjusting screws around the rim
2 bulb holders visible on the rear of each headlamp
& 2 separate reflectors per headlamp - 1 each for the dip & main beams

The lenses are different between LHD and RHD. That's about it. H1s were not available to us at the time in the US.

France I believe had yellow lenses. Otherwise I believe the lights themselves are the same.

    H1 or H4

So what should a proper set of lights (either H4 or H1) look like for a '67S (9/66)?

H1s would look just like the ones in the pictures posted above by Andy, and if your car was Euro delivery, those I believe would be proper.

If it was US delivery, they were totally different, and would have looked like the ones on this beautiful 67S owned by Don.

    2 screws or 4?

    Thanks for the picture.

I have a set with two adjustment screws versus 4 as seen in above pictures what are these H1, H4 or something else?

They have the USA Hella Lenses and new (er) phillips sealed beams.

Henry, I don't believe those are H1s shown on Don's car. H1's did not have the clear lenses. They had a similar flute as the other H1s shown although the were a flush lense along the top of the trim ring without the protrusion.

Here's a crappy close up of a scan of the early H1 on a 67S. I have a crappy resizing tool.

Maybe I wasn't clear, I meant to say that H1s were the ones pictured in the post above, and that the ones on Dons car were US 67 lights, NOT H1s, I'll edit my post.

These are H1s on my 68S, and I guess they were the same on the 67, but I'm not sure.
