    Miami to SF or Bust!

    Hi everyone,

After a 6 year absence, I'm moving back home to San Francisco. I'll be making the 3000+ mile trek from Miami in the later half of April and I was hoping you could provide some recommendations for Porsche friendly shops along the way. I haven't had any issues with the car since becoming an owner just over a year ago, but you never know with a 35 year old car. I just changed the oil, the valves are freshly adjusted, the fire extinguisher is being mounted this week, the brakes have just been redone and I've got the AAA Gold membership just in case.

My route tentatively has me stopping in the following towns, so if you know of any shops here or in between that I can call in a pinch, it would be greatly appreciated:

    Mobile, AL
    Longview, TX
    Amarillo, TX
    Albuquerque, NM or Flagstaff, AZ
    Bakersfield, CA

    Thanks everyone!!!

Here are some contacts I got for my Austin to Boulder run last week. These would make sense for your route. Nothing much in the pan handle of Texas and you will be in cell phone hell with "Alltel" roaming the worst cell company in the world. 99cents a minute and you have to renter the phone number twice...

    good contact in ABQ, NM

Should be plenty of good shops in Dallas that someone can offer up. Tallahassee to Dallas part might be tough for good shops but I could be wrong.

Good luck with the drive. My 2,000 round trip with my 70 was great. see my Austin to Boulder thread. sorry no pictures.

    Jorge,

What'a prefect excuse for a photo essay of your trip on this board... and maybe a write-up for a coming issue of the ESSES....

Cheers and luck on the trip........

I would have been pleased to write up something for Esses on my scenic trip but the wife took digital camera to Mexico. With my no start from altitude, bad gas and cold and snow in the Rockies it would have been a good one. Sorry I only saw the need for articles after the trip otherwise I would have borrowed a camera.

    boxster03,
Good info there, thanks. Also, good tip on topping off the tank before a cold night sets in...

    Chuck,
Will do, the entire trip will be documented. You can count on me for a submission to the Esses (even though it's a T!), and updates along the way to this thread.

    Rico,
We're still on for this weekend!

the aaa premium with the 200 mile tow is a good idea. having some key spare parts would be a good idea too. coil, cd box, fuel pump/filter, mfi and alt. belts. good jack and spare. some tools extra oil. rags, windshield washer fluid and start with good wipers as you are likely to hit a lot of rain in the south this time of yr. stick with branded gas too.

CAA plus RV here...covers anything and everything....truck, trailer, car. I'm sure AAA has the same available. The card is gold. I've used it many a time, but never with the 911..hehe.
