Early S member Kent Moore visits Downunder

Thought some of your guys who know member Kent Moore might like to see what he's been getting up to on his trip to Australia.

Kent arrived Saturday morning and attended the F1 Grand Prix on Sunday. He has been staying with me and visiting some of his fellow Australian TYP901 register members attending a BBQ in his honour Saturday night. (Note the mandatory shrimp on barbie). Host Clyde Boyer, a well known Aussie Early S and R Gruppe member is in the background.

Kent visited TYP901 member - Ian Henderson's collection of historic racing Porsches today where he presented Ian with the factory poster of the 1968 London-Sydney Porsche 911 rally car, which Ian owns and has recently restored. Thanks to Roger Grago for finding this for Ian who has hunted high and low to locate an original, now to be displayed in his garage. Ian also drove his 906 in the Aust. GP Historic races alongside some Porsche factory cars brought out to Australia for the GP and the Historic races the previous weekend.

Kent plans to write some stories about his visit and Ians cars in the Esses so I wont steal his thunder, but will leave you with a few pics taken so far which I hope you like.

I have had the pleasure of visiting many Early S and R Gruppe members in SoCal over the years and would welcome anyone planning to visit Australia and give you the Porsche Tour Downunder. This is an ideal time to visit with the famous Phillip Island Historics racing on the weekend before the Grand Prix so its a full on 10 days of motorsport.

I am sure Kent will attest to this once he returns home and shows around more of his pics.

Forgot to mention the significance of the pic of Kent in front of the Sauber BMW pit at the GP. Kents middle name is Sauber and is related to to the same Sauber involved with the F1 team.

Many thanks must go to Ian Hendersons daughter who coincidentally was working as an Event Manager at the GP and managed to "find" us a pair of tickets for the Pit Lane walk on Sunday. This was an unexpected thrill for Kent as he was able to talk with the BMW Sauber team guys and get his pic taken inside their pit enclosure.

Unfortunately a Ferrari won and the 250,000+ Italians who live in Melbourne havent stop celebrating yet.

We're a hospitable bunch in Australia.....

Land in any east coast Australian capital city... inform us in advance.. and we'll make you feel welcome.

Give us a little notice and its more than likely we can gather a small band of the faithful.

This Sunday.... the Sydney group are taking Kent to breakfast... via some "interesting" roads.

Some of you probably drive further for an event... it's only 16 hours in a plane from the West Coast after all.

Yeah we are out of shrimp (prawns) now, Kent ate them all!!!!!!

Nice pic Phil posted of Ian Hendersons car but you haven't seen the half of it with his collection.

Kent will no doubt elabaorate in Esses but I doubt there are too many finer collections of Porsche special cars to be seen anywhere in the world.

Not to be outdone in the hospitality stakes,Kent came on a drive day with the Sydney 901ers last Sunday.
Unfortunately he brought the Melbourne weather with him !
Kent was one of three visitors for the day - Erik Nerheim from Bergen,Norway - Kent from sunny LA and Cam Arnott from Darwin.
We drove south from Sydney to Stanwell Park for brunch and then to Oran Park for spectating at a Porsche Club NSW track day.
Kent likes his new white hair after a spirited drive in Justin Reed's 2.2 '68 911 L !!

    Cheers,
    Dennis.
