    SWB H1 Question

Aside from the lense (flush versus proud) are there any other differences in the SWB H1s and the later H1s? Different shape secondary reflector? Are the lense patterns similar? What would be the reason for changing the lense style other than that? Maybe to drop the beam more horizontal to the ground?

    Michael,

I only know of one, what I consider Bosch H1 headlight assembly, for 911. I think the first year of availability was ’69. Earlier headlight assemblies (Hella, Bosch and possibly others) were almost identical to T6 356s.

I have H1s on my SWB and wouldn’t use any other.

    Best,
    Grady

    Hi Michael,

Check out Mike's (210bhp) on this thread

    http://www.early911sregistry.org/for...ad.php?t=14174

They are H1's but with the flat style lense, maybe drop him a PM.

    Thanks

    Alan

That's my plan too. I have a set of the H1s with the lense that has the shelf.

I love the SWB flush lense and I've been looking for the early H4s with the flush lense and I know what those look like.

Rennman has an early set of H1s with a flush lense and when I saw the pictures, the housings and the reflectors look similar to my H1s abeit a different lense. There is a picture in my Morgan book that I assumed was the H1s on a 67S but, in looking closer I can't make out the reflectors clearly enough to tell. So, the big question now for me is if there is an early flush lense version of the H1?

Thanks for the link Andy. I remember that thread. That's what got me hooked on that look! Hmmm, do those lenses have the 4 point markings for the H1 alignments? Time to re-visit that closer.

Michael, I did not get a chance to reply to your e mail. I have seen pictures in the Barth Porsche book that show the flat lens on the R as well as the second type lens on the R. The rest of the light looks the same to me.

I did find a lot of period shots of 68's that showed the later lense. So I'm comfortable with 68-on.

Still searching for more 67 shots with the flush lense. Most of what I've seen so far is easy to distinguish the lense but not the reflectors unless it's the Biodes which is very distinctive with the round secondary reflector. Same goes for the number of adjustment screws in the trim rings. Most of my pics are to far away to distinguish clearly.

Is anyone out there with the original H1s delivered on their 67S that can chime in?

    H1

    As far as I know,
H1s were delivered first starting with serial number 11800226 (911S) and 11850065 (911S Targa) for the 1968 model (last SWB) and were not available in USA and France.
The first H1 glasses had rised serial numbers and clear lens top, the later clear top and flat numbers, since the 1973 model the top of the lense was frosted glas.
For the 1967 models and earlier there was no H1 available.
    Hope it helps to clarify.

    H1 France

    Sorry, but I was wrong.
The H1s were available for the 1968 model in France but with yellow lenses. There was also a H1 version for right handed cars.
