Thread: Avon CR6ZZ

  1. #11
After reading Alan's post on the Avons on his ST, it got me started thinking about them for my narrow bodied car. Anyone run these on a stock bodied car...perhaps in the 215/60-15 size.
    Photos would be appreciated.

After the Michelin TBs, avon cr6zz are the best choice for serious street/track driving. Nothing that has correct vintage look is better.

Sorry but when i see modern japanese tyres on german vintage car it hurt my sense of beauty....

Here is a pic of my 2.0S with 185/70 Avon CR6ZZ.

I started with Yokohama semis which had enormous grip but felt totally wrong for a comparatively soft torsion bar suspension (on my 964RS they are great). Then I switched to Avons and I really love the feeling, grip and looks!

If you only want 185 x 70 x 15 for narrow SWB the Dunlop D83J is available from Dunlop Motorsport. There are 3 compounds, X04, X08 and X012.

X04 is soft-ish and X012 is very soft.

On good Asphalt the X012 is almost 2 sedconds per mile quicker than the Avon which we all used to use until the Dunlop appeared about 5 years ago.

The X012 is exceptional in the wet and can be cut on the outer edges for a little more water removal.

I have used X08 in hot weather as when ambient temperatures are 30 degC + the X012 will only last about 150 stage miles.

I have never used X04 but this is probably the best option for road use.

They are full 'E' Marked and DOT Legal for Road Use.

    Great tyres.

Another option for the classic look is Vredestein....They make a 185/70/15 with the classic tread pattern for a reasonable price. I have a set of 165's and 185's and have been very pleased with the look, feel and quality...Craig

Thanks for the photo Anatol. Your car looks nice. Would love to find someone who has installed the 185/70 & 215/60 combo on a LWB car

RennTyp, i think this is the best match for 68-73 911.

Perfect for road (90%) / track (10%) use.
