    225/50x15 tires on 7" rims on 71???

    Hi Guys,

I'm thinking about wheel/tire combos on my 71 Coupe and was wondering if anyone has tried using 225/50 tires on 7" rims. I've seen 205s. Has anyone tried it? What needs to be modified?

    225/50's on 7's

    John,

a friend of mine in Columbia SC has done this - 7 " cookie cutters w/ 225's Kumho's - he had to roll the fender lips. His car is a 69E stock body.

    225 on 7" 911 R's

    John,

On the rear of my narrow bodied '70 S, I have R rims, with 225/50/15's.
Scott Hendry had to grind down the nut, extending through the bolt attaching the trailing arms. I also have spacers. No rolled fenders

See the photo of the car in the classifieds. If you ever need to see the car in person, let me know.

I was wondering the same. If the 225/50-15 would fit all around. When I purchessed the 73 it came with an extra set of 7x15 Fuch's with 225's on them. The PO stated that they had been on the car with no sings of rub. It had a wild Autocross set up as far as caster and camber. But boy it sure would turn in when ya wanted it to. Real bad tread wear on the inside edges as well. Can 225's be worn on all four cornners?

Use a 912 hub on the front, which is about 1/2 narrower than a 911. Then use long studs with spacers to space out the wheel to clear the caliper and shock.
I used this set up on our '73 targa street/track car. I used 8x16 944 fuchs on the front with 225's (245's also worked) Hoosiers and 930 calipers. The only mod to the front fender was having the lip rolled. Front camber was 1.6. On the street I ran a 7x15 and used a 1/4" spacer to clear the caliper.

I used to run 225 on the front of a 911 on 7" fuchs w/o any issues.

On my 1969 911E race car I run 225/50 15's on 7's all the way around. I also run 1/2 inch spacers on the rear (2.5 degree camber with fenders rolled) No problems.

We saw a great car yesterday at the track that runs 225/50/15 on 7's up front, and 245/50/15's on 8's out back, all Hoosier's. The car looked awesome. Chuck may have a photo, not sure. The car had RS flares on the rear, but other than that all stock..............other than the 3.2 liter short stroke motor with MFI. Viper Green and ran like a raped ape. We all admired it in the pits. The wheel and tire combo really stood out............

Smile ride height makes a difference

Depending how low your 911 is makes a difference in rim and tire with. If the torsion bars are set with less angle the lower the car sets and higher up in the wheel area the suppension goes and tire fill more of the tire area. One has to find a happy medium with ground clearance and tire clearance in the wheel area. When Porsche when to longer wheel base 1969 they also put more of a lip on the body in the rear and front. Then along comes the flared fenders to put wider tires. That is progress!!!!
