    Steering Wheel Date Code Question...?

Can anyone help explain why my '72E has a 11 69 date coded 400mm steering wheel?

    Have fun with this one....

Most likely because it was changed at some point.

The wheel you currently have fitted has a leather rim - maybe a previous owner 'upgraded' for this reason ?

    the wheel deal

That's because you have a 914/4 steering wheel on your car.

The prior owner probably wanted to use a smaller diameter steering wheel.

You can tell by the recessed area that your steering wheel bolt sits into. Your wheel would also have a beveled area on the bottom where you place the wheel onto the steering shaft.

All 900 series wheels do not have that. They do have some early 914 and all the 914/6 wheels out there that won't have the recessed area.

    I hope that helps,

    Scooter,
I know what you're talking about, but I don't see the recess, perhaps it's my monitor, or the way I'm looking at it.

Can you give us the part number, I can't read it. We can run the number and see what the wheel is from.

    Regards,
    Eric

The wheel is a 911 400mm leather wheel - it has a 901 part number.

The darker area under the nut is the washer...

The wheel is currently a plain 400mm plastic wheel; It is 901 347 081 00. It is possible that some one had swaped out wheels but I thought I would see traces of broken yellow marker/paint...

    Thanks
