Which fuel tank is this ?

    Hi folks,
I'm new to this board and I already have a question. I have a fuel tank which is gigantic (100 litre tank I think). I've been told that this is an optional tank for the year 68-69.

Does anybody know the value of the tank ?

Your tank is the optional 100 L tank for a road going 911. It is set up to fill through the standard fender mounted gas lid, rather than the often seen race style center fill as fitted to the ST models for rally and circuit racing.

The 100 L tank was available for European delivery cars through 1970. It remained on the option list in the U.S. until 1970 as I recall but there were no optional tanks for U.S. specification cars after that model year. Porsche replaced the steel 100 L long range tank like yours with the slightly larger plastic 110 L tank for the 1971 model year in Europe.

The steel 100 L tanks are not seen too often. When you do find ones like yours, they are usually fitted on the A series short wheelbase 911S. The race version with the center fill neck and big finned Blau cap sticking up through the hood was fitted to most of the Porsche rally and race cars of the '67-'70 era.

It is a desirable option and I would estimate the value at a minimum of $5,500. Nice!
